Teen Adventure—Europe vs. the Caribbean

It seems like everybody we know asks us why we don’t move our boats to the Caribbean where the season is effectively year round. In Europe, the sailing season is only four-months long, give or take a couple of weeks. That’s a lot of time our boats are not working. When you have the maintenance and other overhead expenses we have (considerable), a longer season would certainly be… helpful. So why do we operate north of the 48th parallel?

The benefits of sailing in the Caribbean:

• A tropical climate and year-round warm water.
• Crystal clear water and fabulous beaches.
• Eye-popping reefs and their amazing ecosystems, great for SCUBA diving

The benefits of sailing European coastlines:

• During the season, the heat is rarely oppressive.
• Strict governmental regulation assures parents that boats and cruises are as safe as government mandates can make them.
• No mosquitoes
• But most importantly: The extraordinarily rich cultural and historical patrimonies of Europe are in their own league—and potently mind-opening. The Caribbean has nothing that can really compete. So, if you’re looking for a special environment to dispel a teenager's parochialism and broaden his/her world view, there’s no better place to do it.

We want to provide the most impactful experience possible for our crew members. So here we are. Besides, we’ve got some spectacular beaches, too, like this one in Jersey (the Channel Island):
