…and we do it along storied European coastlines on classic 14m yachts—a unique adventure that challenges, nourishes, and transforms
New technologies are here to stay, for better and for worse. That doesn’t mean parents need to let them completely rewire their youngsters’ minds.
In a world awash with screens—endless notifications, doomscrolling, and digital overload—today's teens are paying a heavy price. Growing evidence shows how constant device attachment erodes mental health, stifles curiosity, crushes real connections, and replaces adventure with sedentary isolation.
At QBE Sailing, we don't force a harsh digital detox (our crew members want to be able to contact their parents occasionally and vice-versa). Instead, we thoughtfully limit screen time so your teen can immerse fully in the exhilaration of traditional sailing on classic yachts along some of Europe's most charming, storied coastlines. Here, they'll harness the wind, navigate open waters, and discover some of life's important rhythms: daily physical challenge, constant interaction with a new, culturally diverse group of friends, and their innate spark of curiosity and growth. The result? A profound intellectual and emotional reset that forges confidence, resilience, and a renewed sense of well-being—qualities that will remain long after summer ends and and the temptation to return to mesmerizing screens inevitably returns.
Ranked among the top-five key “teen-adventure-sailing” options by Perplexity, and the only one in Europe: —"Their unique ‘worldschool’ format and old-school sailing instruction on classic vessels make them a leader for teens seeking epic sailing adventures in Europe.”
Consider: In August 2025, eight of twelve crew members returned for their second, third, or FOURTH QBE expedition. That should say it all—if you want a place, apply now!
“—Just wanted to say a huge thank you again for providing such an amazing, unique and absolutely cool experience! I wasn’t sure what to expect when I stumbled upon this program online but decided it looked perfect for my teenage girl. [She] set off on the three-week sailing expedition, but within a week was begging to stay on for a second expedition.
She loved everything about what wound up being seven weeks at sea ... sailing, sleeping and cooking aboard, exploring the marina towns and festivals, the change-over week and especially new friends and mentors from all over the world. To say she enjoyed it and that it was life changing would be an understatement!
I love hearing all the stories that just keep coming! She will definitely be back next year! ...I’m happy to provide references to any parent considering this program for their teenager.
Thank you again!!””
What Happens When Teens Trade Screens for Sea, Sails & Spectacular Sunsets?
They don’t just unplug. They re-engage—with their bodies, their minds, and one another.
From Sedentary to Active. From Passive to Engaged.
Sailing is a full-body, full-mind pursuit. Teens trim sails, calculate tides, solve problems, and work as a crew. Hours once lost to screens are replaced with purposeful movement, shared responsibility, and real-world skill-building. It’s activity with meaning, not just motion.
Mental Health, Resilience & Emotional Well-Being
Time at sea restores perspective. Nature immersion and outdoor adventure are consistently linked to improved mood, reduced stress, stronger emotional regulation, and greater resilience in adolescents. Away from constant digital stimulation, teens rediscover calm, clarity, and psychological balance—benefits screens alone rarely provide.
Social Connection, Leadership & Emotional Growth
Life on deck demands collaboration, communication, and trust. Teens learn to rely on one another, step into leadership, and contribute to something larger than themselves. Friendships form quickly—and deeply—because our crews are necessarily very small and the experience is shared, real, and meaningful.
Focus, Creativity & Self-Awareness
Natural environments are uniquely restorative for the developing brain. Time at sea reduces cognitive overload, restores attention, and sparks creativity. Teens return not only more focused, but more self-aware, with a renewed capacity to think clearly and reflect meaningfully.
A Shift That Lasts Long After the Voyage
QBE Sailing isn’t about escape. It’s about reset.
Our aim is to help teens carry forward confidence, resilience, teamwork, and a healthier relationship with time—one shaped less by notifications and schedules, and more by presence, purpose, and experience.

ABOUT US
QBE is an internationally acclaimed experiential-learning initiative founded by a group of adventure sport enthusiasts who, once upon a time, all found themselves at the same legendary Swiss boarding school—a place where outdoor and cultural expeditions were not just encouraged but required. Skiing, mountaineering, cycling, and sailing always seemed to be the favorite outdoor options.
Years later, when one of the school’s former expedition masters came across two classic pilot cutters for sale, he saw an opportunity: to recreate and expand one of the school’s most transformative experiences—blue-water sailing—so that young people from a broader range of backgrounds could benefit.
At QBE, we believe that challenging outdoor adventures, like small-yacht sailing at sea, can be nothing short of magic for teenagers. These kinds of experiences boost self-esteem, inspire independence, and build lifelong skills—especially when participants are trusted to make real decisions as part of a small team. That’s why so many top schools around the world now incorporate expeditionary learning into their curriculum.
And when it comes to adventure, nothing quite compares to slicing through the waves on a traditional sailing vessel—except perhaps the satisfaction of pulling into harbor after a challenging day at sea. Unlike wilderness treks, our expeditions also offer exposure to rich authentic European culture: lively ports, local cuisine, and centuries of history in every seaside destination.
Crew members return home changed. Confident. Energized. Proud of what they’ve accomplished… because they have accomplished something impressive—together.
And that confidence doesn’t end at the quay. Self-esteem is a powerful driver of academic and career success, as well. You’ll be amazed by the difference a few weeks of world-class adventure can make in a young person’s life trajectory.

You may never have imagined sending your son or daughter on a sailing expedition along the French coast. But wherever you live, it’s worth considering. This really is much more than some serene summer camp. It’s a dynamic, life-elevating journey—where no one spends time on the margins. In fact, every crew member plays a vital role.
